Development through volunteering overseas
International volunteering has been recognised by the UN General Assembly as a valuable tool for sustainable development. However, over the years international volunteering efforts have been presented by the media as the domain of the rich, sightseeing, self-serving Westerner.
Our Volunteer Working Group developed the Development through volunteering overseas: Perceptions on personal and project based impact survey with the hope to dispel some of the negative associations with international volunteering.
The key results show that international volunteers clearly perceive benefits for the projects and communities involved, besides the element of personal development.
